In March, Documentary Channel kicked off WMM’s 40th anniversary with a
month of WMM films as part of a special tribute to women filmmakers.
Premiere broadcasts included THE

rebroadcast of Academy Award® nominee FERRY
TALES.

of WMM's newest releases, including JUSTICE
FOR SALE and THE
PRICE OF SEX, were screened with post film discussions with
filmmakers and WMM Acquisitions and Public Program Manager, Kristen
Fitzpatrick. Every screening sold out with 450+ audience members.

Movies presented 3 of the WMM New Releases, including SARABAH and ORCHIDS.
Lucila Moctezuma from the Production Assistance Program was in
attendance and presented the 3 films in addition to participating on a
panel: “Distribution: a possibility or a closed door?”

A
screening of "Through the Years," a retrospective shorts program of 4
films that highlight the amazing contributions from the last 4 decades
from some of WMM's most celebrated filmmakers along with 4 of our newer
releases, including ATOMIC
MOM and films by Tracey
Moffatt, Julie Dash and Ngozi Onwurah. Kristen Fitzpatrick presented the
films and led a workshop called “Distribution Possibilities in North
America.”

Women Make
Movies was presented with the GCC/U.N. WOMEN'S IMPACT AWARD for their
contributions to a woman or organization in the film industry that has
significantly influenced the role and portrayal of women in film. Six
new releases from WMM were screened, including JUSTICE
FOR SALE and INVOKING
JUSTICE. Lucila Moctezuma and Debra Zimmerman participated in a
program WMM co-founded with the festival: the second edition of SIDE BY
SIDE, a one day mentoring program for women filmmakers.

A screening of "Through the Years" along with some of
our newer releases, including ATOMIC
MOM and
films by Tracey Moffatt, Julie Dash and Ngozi Onwurah.
Kristen Fitzpatrick presented the films and had one on
one meetings with European filmmakers about
distribution. Maysoon Pachachi, WMM filmmaker, presented
a workshop on filmmakers.

A retrospective of the work of critically acclaimed
documentarian Kim Longinotto, including PINK
SARIS and SISTERS
IN LAW, was screened as part of WMM's 40th
anniversary celebration.
The Museum of Modern Art, MoMA, New York, New York,
May & June 2012
Two of WMM's long time filmmakers received
retrospectives at NY's prestigious Museum of Modern Art.
Tracey Moffatt, the Australian photographer and
filmmaker, had a retrospective in May, and Lourdes
Portillo, Mexican/Chicana Academy Award winning
documentarian, in June 2012. Panels and discussions with
filmmakers were held.

Women Make Movies is the proud partner of the women's
film program section of the first Sierra Leone
International Film Festival. We screened 4 films from
our prestigious Africa collection in conjunction with
panels conducted by the Women's Institute at the
University of Sierra Leone.

Rights were screened.
Flying Broom International Women's Film Festival,
Ankara, Turkey, May 2012
A retrospective of the work of Vietnamese theorist and
filmmaker Trinh T. Minh-ha was screened in addition to
several films from the New Releases and core collection.
Debra Zimmerman and Kristen Fitzpatrick presented the
program as well as talked to an audience about the WMM
40th anniversary and women and filmmaking.

A program of 5 - 7 films from Spanish and Latin American
filmmakers was presented.

Women Make Movies screened several of the 2012 New
Releases, sponsored a panel on Women Producers, and
hosted a reception for women filmmakers. Debra Zimmerman
attended along with Kristen Fitzpatrick.

The MINI Film Festival, organized by Ladies
& The City Institute in
collaboration with Women
Make Movies at the
Princess Grace Theater (Salle du Ponant), will offer five
documentaries and a
workshop on the theme "Can
Documentaries Change the World? Assessing and Harnessing the Social
Impact of Nonfiction Film." WMM staff and filmmakers will be in
attendance.

SCARLET ROAD
on Sat., Sept. 29 at 8 pm in the Art Studio Screening Room at the Dallas
Museum of Art. Executive Director Debra Zimmerman will be giving talk on
