WMM@40
40 Years 40 Events 40 Cities

From March 2012 through March 2013, WMM celebrated our 40th Anniversary with 40 international screenings and events, spotlighting classic works from its catalog as well as exciting new releases. We worked with museums, film festivals and cultural institutions around the world to present films, retrospectives, panels, workshops and mentoring events. The anniversary year kicked off with a month of programming on the Documentary Channel in March and continued across North America and the rest of the world. Recent events included two retrospectives of our filmmakers—Tracey Moffat and Lourdes Portillo at MoMA—and programs in the Czech Republic, Argentina, Iceland, Sierra Leone, Turkey and England, among many locations. We enjoyed celebrating the accomplishments of women filmmakers, exciting new audiences with feminist films, and working with our partners to bring together men and women around the globe to discuss, debate, and learn about the past, present, and future of independent women’s films. Women Make Movies. Now more than ever.
