ONLINE MARKETING AND OUTREACH COORDINATOR

Founded in 1972, Women Make Movies (WMM) is a non-profit feminist, media arts organization dedicated to the distribution and exhibition of films by and about women. With a collection of more than 500 titles, WMM is the largest distributor of films by and about women in the world. WMM also facilitates the production of feminist media through a Production Assistance (PA) Program, which includes a workshop series and a fiscal sponsorship program. Women Make Movies is seeking an energetic, dedicated and highly motivated full-time Online Marketing and Outreach Coordinator. This person will be responsible for coordinating and implementing all areas of online marketing, specifically, outreaching and marketing the WMM collection of films to educational, community and cultural organizations. In addition, this person will update and maintain the WMM website, WMM’s presence on social networking sites, and develop new Web and organizational partnerships to publicize WMM campaigns.

This is a great opportunity for someone with exceptional web, outreach and marketing skills to work collaboratively with the sales and marketing department. Ideal candidate will have a passion for political and cultural activism and be enthusiastic and creative about using the internet and emerging digital strategies to market the WMM collection of films.

Qualifications:

  • 2-3 years professional experience in coordinating and executing outreach and marketing campaigns in a film and/or media environment using varied online tools. Grassroots outreach experience a plus.
  • Knowledge and experience with web-based marketing activities (emails, blogs, tagging, social networking, viral marketing, SEO, Google adwords and analytics) and online videos. Some experience with HTML and web design preferred.
  • Excellent research, analytic, administrative and multi-tasking skills. Ability to meet deadlines and work both independently and as a team.
  • Flexibility, professionalism and a positive attitude.
  • Ability to communicate clearly and effectively, both verbally and in written format.
  • Enthusiasm and passion for WMM. Sense of humor a plus.

Salary and Benefits:

  • Low to mid $30's based upon experience

PRODUCTION ASSISTANCE PROGRAM COORDINATOR

Founded in 1972, Women Make Movies (WMM) is a non-profit feminist, media arts organization dedicated to the distribution and exhibition of films by and about women. Women Make Movies’ Production Assistance (PA) Program provides assistance to emerging and experienced women directors in the production of new documentaries, fiction and experimental films.

WMM is seeking a Production Assistance Program Coordinator who will report directly to the Executive Director and work with our Program Consultant. The PA Program assists women filmmakers to independently produce films by providing fiscal sponsorship, workshops, seminars, and various online resources. The Coordinator will manage the fiscal sponsorship program, including review of applications, administering contributions and disbursements, preparing government funding reports, and handling production assistance inquiries. Additional responsibilities include organizing and scheduling workshops and seminars, updating information resources and the PA section of our website, and promoting the program and its activities.

Skills, Qualifications and Other Requirements

  • At least two years experience working in a non-profit arts organization
  • Must have some familiarity with foundation/government fundraising 
  • A basic knowledge of film production and/or financing.
  • This position requires someone to be extremely detailed, computer savvy, and who can successfully juggle multiple tasks in a productive and positive manner.
  • Excellent written and verbal communication skills and ability to meet deadlines.
  • Flexibility, professionalism, a positive attitude, and a sense of humor, of course, are mandatory!

Application

Learn the workings of independent film distribution and the business side of the business at Women Make Movies. You can work with our distribution staff and learn about outreach and promotion of independent film.  Or work with our production assistance program and learn about raising money and getting independent films made. We are currently looking for spring interns, and have immediate internships available in all areas, including:

Marketing: Assist with promotions and community outreach programs.
Public Relations/Editorial: Help create materials for media reviewers and web site promotions.
Design/Interactive Media: Help with promotional materials and website.
Filmmaker Services: Assist in developing resources for filmmakers.
Workshop Series: Help organize and run our Media Workshop Series.
Distribution: Help manage our archives and ship films to customers.
Administration: Learn the operations side of the distribution business.

As one of our interns you'll receive free access to our huge collection of films and videos and other benefits such as invites to screenings and receptions.  Though all internships are unpaid we do offer a weekly travel stipend.

Qualifications & Time Commitment

Qualified candidates will demonstrate excellent communication skills; strong organizational skills; the ability to multi-task, work independently and work well under pressure; and will take initiative. Familiarity with Internet research, Windows 2000 and the Microsoft Office Suite necessary. Knowledge of and interest in feminist media a plus.

Interns are asked to work a minimum of 15 hours per week. Duration is flexible to meet university requirements, but a minimum commitment of three months is optimal. All interns will be required to sign an Internship Letter of Agreement that outlines the duration and schedule of their internship.

Marketing Intern

  • Outreach to community-based and academic organizations including academic reviewers and conferences.
  • Produce and mail promotional materials, paste up reviews and maintain department databases and mailing lists.

  • Update and design press kits including the following: paste-ups, research for reviews, photo scans and upkeep of promotional files.
  • Research new opportunities and contact various listserves and media arts organizations for promotion and publicity of theatrical and semi-theatrical screenings.

  • Knowledge of desktop publishing, strong attention to detail and exceptional verbal and written communication skills necessary.

Design/Interactive Media Intern

  • Perform regular updates to the WMM website, maintain and create new pages for site and implement any new online marketing initiatives.
  • Assist email newsletters and announcements and design and creation of print/publicity materials.
  • Perform general office tasks, including copying, filing and mailing materials.
  • Web research savvy and social networking familiarity
  • Basic video editing skills
  • Good working knowledge of Photoshop and image optimization, Frontpage and Dreamweaver for the PC, the ability to hand code basic html as well as proficiency with desktop publishing programs Quark Xpress, Illustrator and InDesign. Familiarity with Microsoft Access a plus.

Filmmaker Services Intern

  • Assist in the promotion and outreach of the Production Assistance Program to independent film and video makers.
  • Research filmmaker resources for fundraising, marketing, promotion and distribution both on the Internet and in print material.
  • Compile information on WMM sponsored films and videos.
  • Perform general office tasks, including copying, filing and mailing materials.
  • Knowledge of film production and/or film theory necessary. Adobe Acrobat skills are preferred but not required.

Workshop Series Intern

Position limited to the duration of the fall and spring workshops series. The series generally occurs on 10 weekday evenings over the course of 3 months, with the exception of one Saturday all-day workshop. Candidates for this internship must apply in August for the fall series opening or in February for the spring series opening.

  • Responsible for set-up and clean up of workshop space, workshop attendee registration, and workshop evaluation forms.
  • Perform general office tasks, including copying, filing and mailing materials.
  • Professional, courteous attitude and strong communication skills recommended. Knowledge of film pre-production and post-production planning a plus.

Distribution Intern

  • Receive and log in all incoming acquisitions; check in, label, quality check and shelve new inventory; package and label all outgoing packages.
  • Update customer, lab and contract databases; maintain distribution files; dub new acquisitions for staff; and upkeep of in-house video library and archive.
  • Perform general office tasks, including copying, filing and mailing materials.
  • Excellent attention to detail; strong organizational, clerical and computer skills necessary.
  • Knowledge of MyMail preferred but not required.

Administrative Intern

  • Assist Office Manager with computer maintenance and security, and maintain computer log and software; maintain office supplies log and upkeep of supply cabinet.
  • Update and maintain vendor files and financial paperwork, including purchase orders and check requests.
  • Answer phones, field questions and calls; and distribute incoming mail and faxes to staff.
  • Perform general office tasks, including copying, filing and mailing materials.
  • Excellent attention to detail; strong organizational, clerical and computer skills necessary.
  • Knowledge of MyMail and Quickbooks preferred by not required. Familiarity with computer networking a plus.
