FILMMAKER SERVICES & PUBLIC PROGRAMS MANAGER


Women Make Movies, a NY based non-profit media organization that supports women filmmakers, is searching for an extraordinary individual for an exciting new managerial staff position. Our Production Assistance (PA) Program has experienced tremendous growth in the last three years resulting in the need for a new position within both the Distribution and Production Assistance departments. This is a highly visible, external position with quite a bit of travel and a high level of responsibility. The appropriate person will be an experienced film professional and already have extensive contacts and familiarity with the independent film industry, including broadcasters, exhibitors, film festivals and filmmakers.

The Filmmaker Services & Public Programs Manager reports to the Executive Director and is responsible for oversight and development of our Production Assistance (PA) Program. She/he will supervise the PA Program Coordinator on all aspects of the program including the fiscal sponsorship program, workshop series, as well as publishing an online newsletter and resource materials. Specific duties include evaluating and making recommendations for applications to the fiscal sponsorship program, development of new program initiatives, the promotion of the program to filmmakers, and exploring new opportunities to expand our assistance to, and advocacy on behalf of, women filmmakers. Responsibilities in the Distribution Program include booking films into cinemas and key international film festivals, pre-sales and acquisitions to domestic and international broadcasters, acting as filmmaker liaison, scouting new acquisitions, and representing the organization at film festivals and other public events.

  

SKILLS, QUALIFICATIONS, AND OTHER REQUIREMENTS:

  • 5- 7 years of progressive, management-level responsibility in the film industry.

  •  Knowledge of and experience with film festivals, film production, and/or broadcasting is a requirement.

  • Experience in program management and development, e.g. workshops and seminars.

  • Knowledge of or experience with raising money for film production is extremely helpful.

  • Good public speaking skills and/or experience with public presentations.

  • Ability to meet deadlines.

  • Highly computer literate and familiarity with social media necessary.

  • Superior written and verbal communication skills.

  • Flexibility, professionalism, and a positive attitude.

  • Knowledge of, and commitment to, feminist film.

PRODUCTION ASSISTANCE PROGRAM COORDINATOR

Women Make Movies, a NY based non-profit media organization that supports women filmmakers, is seeking a Production Assistance (PA) Program Coordinator who will report directly to the Filmmaker Services/Public Programs Manager. The PA Program assists women filmmakers who produce and direct independent films by providing fiscal sponsorship, workshops, seminars, and various online resources. The Coordinator will manage the fiscal sponsorship program, including review of applications, administering contributions and disbursements, preparing government funding reports, and handling production assistance inquiries. Additional responsibilities include working with the Production Assistance Program Consultant, organizing and scheduling workshops and seminars, updating information resources and the PA section of our website, and promoting the program and its activities.

  

SKILLS, QUALIFICATIONS, AND OTHER REQUIREMENTS:

  • At least 3 years experience working in a non-profit arts organization.

  • Must have some familiarity with foundation and government fundraising.

  • Knowledge of film production and/or financing is necessary.

  • This position requires someone to be extremely detailed, computer savvy, and who can successfully juggle multiple tasks in a productive and positive manner.

  • Excellent written and verbal communication skills and ability to meet deadlines.

  • Flexibility, professionalism, a positive attitude, and a sense of humor.

  • Knowledge of, and commitment to, independent and/or feminist film.

Qualifications & Time Commitment

Qualified candidates will demonstrate excellent communication skills; strong organizational skills; the ability to multi-task, work independently and work well under pressure; and will take initiative. Familiarity with Internet research, Windows XP and the Microsoft Office Suite necessary. Knowledge of and interest in feminist media a plus.

Interns are asked to work a minimum of 15 hours per week during the school year and 24 hours per week in the summer. Duration is flexible to meet university requirements, but a minimum commitment of three months is optimal. All interns will be required to sign an Internship Letter of Agreement that outlines the duration and schedule of their internship.
