Jonathan Demme

Jonathan Demme is an award-winning filmmaker, producer, and writer of documentaries and popular feature films. In 1984, he directed SWING SHIFT, featuring Goldie Hawn and Kurt Russell, followed by a series of notable concert films such as STOP MAKING SENSE and SWIMMING TO CAMBODIA. In 1991, Demmeís THE SILENCE OF THE LAMBS became one of the few films in history to win all of the major categories (Best Film, Best Director, Best Screenplay, Best Actor and Best Actress) at the Academy Awards. He also directed PHILADELPHIA, which garnered an Academy Award for Tom Hanks, as well as the RACHEL GETTING MARRIED, which earned Anne Hathaway a Best Actress nomination. In 2007, Demmeís film MAN FROM PLAINS premiered at the Venice and Toronto film festivals. The film documents former US president Jimmy Carterís book tour in promotion of his book Palestine: Peace not Apartheid. (07/09)
