Jeff Canin
Producer Jeff Canin of Hatchling Productions has been producing documentaries for television and educational and training videos since 1992. Along with Cathy Henkel, he produced WALKING THROUGH A MINEFIELD for SBS television in 1999 and the award winning LOSING LAYLA for ABC TV. It won the 2001 ATOM award for Best Documentary, was highly commended in the Dendy Awards and was nominated for an AFI (Australian Film Institute) award. The film has sold internationally in fifteen countries including sales to ARTE in Europe and HBO in the US. THE MAN WHO STOLE MY MOTHER'S FACE was a finalist in the Cape Town World Cinema Festival and was selected for screening at Hot Docs, the Canadian International Documentary Conference and the Tribeca Film Festival in New York. ‘I told you I was ill: the life and legacy of Spike Milligan' (2005) looked at Spike's life and the effect of his mental illness on himself and his family. ‘The Burning Season' (2008) explores the contribution to climate change of the fires and deforestation in Indonesia and one potential mechanism for a solution: carbon trading.
In between films, Jeff has continued to do sea turtle work for Humane Society International, and carries out turtle research for the Queensland Environmental Protection Agency every year. He is passionate about wildlife conservation, folk music, photography and kayaking. (09/09)
