Danielle Lurie

Writer/director Danielle Lurie graduated from Stanford University in 2000 with a BA in Philosophy. While a production assistant on feature films, TV shows, and commercials, Danielle directed her first short films, NOSTRUM and HARRIS RANCH. In making IN THE MORNING Danielle worked with New York Times Journalist, Dexter Filkins, as well as Nebahat Akkoç of KA-MER, (the Women’s Center of Diyarbakir, Turkey. Although shot in Los Angeles with an American cast and crew, the film is set in Turkey and spoken in Turkish. IN THE MORNING premiered at the 2005 Sundance Film Festival, and has won eight film festivals across the globe, including Best Narrative Short at the Oscar qualifying Nashville Film Festival.

On November 9, 2005, IN THE MORNING screened before members of the U.S. Congress during the Congressional Human Rights Caucus on Honor Killings. Currently, Danielle is in development on the feature-length version of IN THE MORNING, as well as on the feature film based on the documentary SEARCHING FOR ANGELA SHELTON. (1/06)
