THE MEDIA WORKSHOP SERIES

Women Make Movies offers a Workshop Series each Spring and Fall to provide valuable and practical information about the business and financial aspects of video and filmmaking. The low-cost workshops are geared to both emerging and established independent film and video makers. Conducted by a range of highly experienced and successful women in the independent film and video industry, the classes offer valuable information and networking opportunities.

Workshops vary slightly with every series, as we invite new instructors to speak and and try our best to keep up with the most current industry issues. However, the list below is a good representation of topics covered:

Workshop Fees

Our low-cost workshops are among the most affordable in the city. Prices for single workshops vary. If you are interested in several courses, you may be able to save money with one of our Passes, which include:

Discounts

A discount of 20% off the individual class rate is available to Friends of WMM who contribute at least $50 per year, participants in the WMM Fiscal Sponsorship Program, and film and video makers with work in the WMM Distribution Collection. If you are unsure if you qualify, please call 212-925-0606 prior to registering electronically. WMM also offers a 15% Student Discount off individual class rates to students with valid school I.D.

Refund Policy

No refunds will be given for any registrations.  If you are unable to make the workshop but notify us up to 24 hours prior to the actual workshop date, you may receive a credit for another workshop within one year. Workshops may be cancelled by WMM due to insufficient enrollment. All instructors are subject to change.

SPRING EVENTS
 

Meet the Funders: Gucci Tribeca Documentary Fund
Thursday, March 27 | 7:00 – 8:00 p.m

Are you working on a feature-length documentary that is in production or post-production with the intended premiere exhibition in 2009? Does your film examine or document people who are ignored, ostracized or otherwise marginalized; people fighting for social or political change; or broad social movements? If the answer is yes, then you should know about the Gucci Tribeca Documentary Fund.

The Fund will provide finishing funds to documentaries that promote social change and illuminate issues in need of comprehensive coverage currently missing in mainstream media. Grants ranging from $5,000 – $30,000 will be awarded in 2008, totaling $80,000.

On Your Way To Hot Docs?

Come to WMM’s informal gathering and learn how to get the most out of your Hot Docs experience; if you are pitching at Hot Docs we’ll give you some insider tips; meet other WMM makers who will be at Hot Docs.

Rough Cut Screening - STRIKE DICE: BETTING ON MY FATHER

WMM offers an amazing opportunity for filmmakers in our Production Assistance program to screen your rough cut or works in progress in our screening room and receive valuable feedback from filmmakers in WMM community as well as from WMM staffers. Rough Cut Screenings are held once a month.

In April, WMM presents STRIKE DICE, a feature-length documentary by Natalie Picoe. STRIKE DICE follows the filmmaker's struggle to help her father, who went from being an upper class child of privilege in South Carolina to a compulsive gambler, down and out, living on the streets of Las Vegas. TRT: 57mins.

Gain insight into fine tuning your rough cut, or provide valuable feedback to Natalie by attending this Rough Cut Screening!
