Documentary Master Class with Natalia Almada
Co-Sponsored by Cinema Tropical, NALIP, and CineWomen NY
Wednesday, March 29 | 6:30 - 9:30 p.m. | $50/40 discounted rate*
Join
director and editor Natalia Almada for a documentary how-to and case study of
her latest film, Al Otro Lado (To the
Other Side).
Natalia will share how she raised the funds for the film through grants and
individual
donors, including receiving funding from Latino Public Broadcasting. She will
take you through her production process—from the logistics of shooting in
another country and finding her subjects to re-crafting the story in the edit
room. She will also share how she approached distributors and negotiated an
upcoming broadcast on P.O.V., PBS's award-winning non-fiction showcase.
Natalia’s first film All Water has a Perfect Memory has received numerous
awards, was broadcast on The Sundance Channel and is currently distributed by
Women Make Movies. She recently received a grant from the Creative Capital
Foundation for doc-in-development El General, about her great grandfather, a
former president of Mexico.
Al Otro Lado looks at immigration and drug trafficking through Mexico's
200-year-old tradition of corrido music.
