WMM AT MIP: ZIMMERMAN
TO MODERATE MIPDOC PANEL
WMM joins the ranks at MIPDOC/TV for
the first time this year representing work by our wonderful women
filmmakers to buyers from all over the world! Executive
Director, Debra Zimmerman, will
moderate the sure-to-be-lively "What's Hot in Docs" panel at
the MIPDOC Conference Program on Saturday, April 9th from 4:30 to 6pm in the
Salon Brougham, 1st floor Mezzanine.
Six WMM films will be available
at MIPDOC including the Academy
Award-nominated short FERRY
TALES by Katja Esson,
BEAH: A BLACK WOMAN SPEAKS, the directorial debut of actress LisaGay Hamilton, and
THE PHANTOM OF THE OPERATOR
by Caroline Martel, which premiered to
acclaim at Toronto and is currently touring festivals
worldwide.

KEEP NOT SILENT AND SENTENCED TO MARRIAGE CHOSEN FOR INPUT
WMM is pleased to announce that two New Releases have been chosen for INPUT
2005, the prestigious annual international public television conference, which
showcases the very best in public TV from around the world. Selected
films are Ilil Alexander's
KEEP NOT SILENT:
ORTHO-DYKES,
winner of an Israeli Oscar among other awards, and Anat Zuria's
SENTENCED TO MARRIAGE which premiered at IDFA and won for Best
Documentary at the Jerusalem Film Fest. Zuria will be in attendance, along with
WMM Executive Director, Debra Zimmerman. INPUT 2005 will be held May 1-6 in San

FILMMAKERS AND ALUMS SELECTED FOR TRIBECA FILM FESTIVAL
WMM filmmakers and alums will be all over this year's Tribeca Film Fest.
In the Narrative Short Competition is WMM New Release
IN THE MORNING,
the provocative drama about honor killings that premiered at Sundance.

WMM filmmaker Natalia Almada (ALL
WATER HAS A PERFECT MEMORY) premieres her latest doc,
AL
OTRO LADO/TO THE OTHER SIDE in the feature
documentary section.
Several WMM filmmakers will take part in Tribeca
All Access Connects, the Tribeca Film Institute's program
for fostering relationships between US filmmakers of color and the film
industry. LisaGay Hamilton, director of WMM's 2004 Release
BEAH: A BLACK WOMAN SPEAKS,
will serve as a juror.
Two filmmakers in our Fiscal Sponsorship program and a
former staff member will participate: Elisha Miranda (FS) with her
narrative OUTSIDE THE WALL, Lisette Marie Flannery (FS) with her
documentary MA HULA KANE: THE MEN OF HULA, and
former staffer Senain Kheshgi
brings her doc PROJECT KASHMIR.
Rose Troche, whose film GO FISH was in WMM's Fiscal
Sponsorship Program, will launch IN A COUNTRY OF MOTHERS in
TAA's Signature Series, a program to help established
filmmakers launch new films.

IN THE MORNING, recent winner of the Kodak Jesse Epstein
Humanitarian Award at the Cleveland Film Fest, screens April 17 and 21. Both
Brabbee and Lurie will be in attendance.

HIGHWAY COURTESANS director Mystelle Brabbee shares her insights on the
panel Digging Deeper: Secrets of Sensitive Storytelling which explores
ethical and trust issues involved with documentary making, held on
Wednesday, April 20 6:30 – 8:30 pm.

New Release AL’LEESSI… AN AFRICAN ACTRESS,
which was
an official selection at the Berlin Film Festival and winner of "the Public
Award" at the Geneva Film Festival will screen at the 12th Annual
New York African Film Festival
at Lincoln Center on April 21 and 23.
The South Asian Human Rights Film Festival will screen
SEARCH
FOR FREEDOM as part of Beyond Conflict program. The program runs on April 9 from

The Afghan Art & Film Fest
will screen
AFGHANISTAN UNVEILED and
AFGHANISTAN: THE LOST
TRUTH. The festival,
which tours seven cities from April to June, begins in New York on April 9. For

Finally,
WMM and Ocularis are proud to present Ulrike Ottinger's
MADAME X: AN ABSOLUTE
RULER, an under-recognized classic of feminist, queer,
and German New Wave cinema. The screening will be held Sunday, April 24 7 pm
at the Galapagos Art Space in Brooklyn.
