WMM’s 2007 Supplement is here, featuring exciting New Releases! Check out new films in our extraordinary Beyond the Veil Collection, such as LEILA KHALED, HIJACKER, which screened recently at the Full Frame Documentary Film Festival. THAT'S HOT! WMM FILMS AT HOT DOCS

WMM is making a strong showing at this year's Hot Docs Canadian International Documentary Festival, April 19-29. Winner of the Sundance Festival’s World Cinema Documentary Jury Prize, ENEMIES OF HAPPINESS screened on April 21 and 23, while the latest from Ebtisam Maraana (PARADISE LOST), 3 Times Divorced, has its international premiere on April 26 and screens again on April 29. The Foreign Eye by Lúcia Murat (HOW NICE TO SEE YOU ALIVE and SWEET POWER) has its Canadian premiere on April 27 and 29. Jennifer Fox (BEIRUT: THE LAST HOME MOVIE) screened her latest film from WMM's Production Assistance Program, Flying: Confessions of a Free Woman on April 20, and it will show again on April 29. Fox also participates in Hot Docs Talk: The Art of the Interview.

Several other filmmakers from our Production Assistance Program will be showing their newest films as well: The Devil Came on Horseback by Annie Sundberg and Ricki Stern (who will also speak in Hot Docs Talk: What Makes It Political?) and A Walk Into the Sea: Danny Williams and the Warhol Factory by Esther Robinson. Cathryne Czubek will also be participating in the Toronto Documentary Forum and will be pitching her doc-in-progress, A Girl and a Gun.

And we are also pleased to announce that WMM staffer Maya Mumma has a short documentary in competition. Blind Faith: A Film About Seeing screens April 28 with the other finalists from the International Documentary Challenge, a timed documentary filmmaking competition.

COUNCIL ON FOUNDATIONS INVITES WMM PARTICIPATION AT ANNUAL CONFERENCE, AWARDS THE GRACE LEE PROJECT

Executive Director Debra Zimmerman has been invited by the Council on Foundations to speak to members during their Annual Conference in Seattle, WA this month. Zimmerman along with other panelists will brief grantmakers in film and electronic media on the state of the media field and about the impact funders are having on media policy.

At the COF Awards Gala THE GRACE LEE PROJECT will receive the Council on Foundations' Henry Hampton Award for Excellence in Film & Digital Media, as will Oscar-nominee My Country, My Country from WMM's Production Assistance program. Filmmaker Grace Lee will be honored at the Film and Video Festival Dinner and Screening, and Laura Poitras will present My Country, My Country as part of the conference's "Meet the Filmmakers" series. TROOP 1500: GIRL SCOUTS BEYOND BARS also shows during the conference at the Film & Video Festival Screenings.


WMM AT TRIBECA FILM FESTIVAL

WMM is pleased to announce that eight filmmakers from the WMM Production Assistance Program will be showing their latest projects at the Tribeca Film Festival in New York, April 25 - May 6.

Projects that were produced with assistance from the PA program include A Walk Into the Sea: Danny Williams and the Warhol Factory by Esther Robinson, screening as part of the World Documentary Competition and Tootie’s Last Suit by Lisa Katzman, screening in the Showcase section.

WMM also congratulates the following filmmakers whose previous work came out of the PA program: Abigail Child with On the Downlow (Discovery section), Ricki Stern and Annie Sundberg with The Devil Came on Horseback (Showcase section), Andrea Štaka with Fraulein (Showcase section), Vanessa Roth with The Third Monday in October (Family section), Lynne Sachs with The Small Ones (Shorts section) and Peggy Stern with The Moon and the Son (Encounters section).


GRACED WITH GRACIES - WMM FILMS GARNER TOP AWARDS

The American Women in Radio & Television (AWRT) recently announced the 32nd annual Gracie Award winners, and two WMM filmmakers will be honored this year. AWRT celebrates programming created for, by and about women, as well as individuals who have made exemplary contributions to the industry. The Gracies strive to encourage the realistic and faceted portrayal of women in entertainment, commercials, news, features and other programs.
