STARS OF SISTERS IN LAW VISIT U.S. FROM CAMEROON
PRIOR TO APRIL RUN AT NY'S FILM FORUM
Traveling from their Cameroon courthouse to the Big Apple, state prosecutor Vera Ngassa and Court President Beatrice Ntuba are the two feisty women featured in Kim Longinotto’s
award-winning documentary, SISTERS IN
LAW.
WMM is pleased to welcome Ngassa, Ntuba and filmmaker Kim Longinotto to
New York City for several sneak preview screenings of this highly acclaimed doc
before its opening at NY's Film Forum April 12-25 for two weeks only.
WMM partners with Equality Now for
a special presentation of SISTERS IN LAW at the Tribeca Screening Room on Wednesday, March 1
at
7:00pm. On Friday March 3, the film will be shown at the UN Commission on
the Status of Women followed by a panel discussion on women’s rights and customary law.
Finally, the film has a public screening at the
Harlem Film Festival
on Friday March 3 at 7:30pm.

Longinotto will follow each screening.

PARTNERS WITH GIRLS SCOUTS USA TO PROMOTE
TROOP 1500 -
Broadcast Premiere on PBS Series INDEPENDENT LENS March 21
WMM is partnering with Girl Scouts USA on a seven-city screening tour of
TROOP 1500,
the powerful film featuring Girl Scouts Beyond Bars, a groundbreaking
national program that brings girls into prisons to meet with their inmate moms.
The tour includes a special event at the Smithsonian's National Museum of
American History, targeting legislators, lawmakers and members of the criminal
justice reform community. The tour also includes Seattle, Chicago, Boston, New
York and Hartford. The film premieres March 21 on Emmy-award winning series
Independent Lens on on most PBS stations. For more information and local

HIGHWAY COURTESANS
SCREENS AT IFC CENTER IN NYC ON MARCH 14th
Mystelle Brabbee's award-winning coming-of-age story,
HIGHWAY COURTESANS screens at the IFC Center in New York City
as part of Thom Power's "Stranger than Fiction" series on Tuesday, March 14,
followed by Q&A with the filmmakers, and continuing conversation at the IFC bar.
Called “complex and emotional” by Utne magazine and screened at festivals from
Austin to Thessaloniki,
this riveting doc follows a young woman struggling against a centuries-old
tradition of prostitution in rural India. The IFC Center is located at 323 Sixth Ave (at 3rd St).

HIGHWAY COURTESANS will have its theatrical
release this fall starting October 13 at the QUAD Theater in New York City.

STAFF TRAVEL AROUND THE WORLD IN MARCH
Michele Coe, Administrator of WMM's Production Assistance Program will be
attending the 7th annual
National Alliance of Independent Producers (NALIP) Conference, held in
Huntington Beach California March 9-12. She will be participating on the
Latin Media Market and on a Documentary Pitch Evaluation panel. Christie George,
Broadcast and Theatrical Manager, is off to Finland March 8-12 to attend the
Tampere Film
Festival, one of the leading short film festivals in the world. Christie
will be presenting a special program of WMM films including
IN THE MORNING,
TROOP 1500
and FERRY TALES.
That same week, Debra Zimmerman, Executive Director, will be attending the
Miami International Film Festival
where she will moderating a panel on women's filmmaking and speaking on two
other panels on distribution and marketing. She then travels to the
Thessaloniki International
Documentary Film Festival in Greece.
