GRACE LEE ON GOOD MORNING AMERICA; LA THEATRICAL RUN BEGINS MARCH 31

Tune in to ABC’s Good Morning America on Monday March 27 for an interview with award-winning filmmaker Grace Lee. Her film THE GRACE LEE PROJECT earned rave reviews during its New York run, and screens in Los Angeles for one week only, March 31 to April 6, at the Laemmle Fairfax Theaters. The film continues its theatrical release with upcoming dates in Chicago, Santa Fe, Portland, Oregon and Columbus, Ohio—plus more cities and dates to be announced. MIPDOC 2006 | TRINH T. MINH-HA NOMINATED FOR TRAILBLAZER AWARD
WMM Executive Director on Panel about New Distribution Formats

Critically acclaimed filmmaker Trinh T. Minh-ha will be honored as one of five nominees at the "International Trailblazers Tribute" on April 1 at MIPDOC, a worldwide showcase for new documentaries held in Cannes. The internationally celebrated filmmaker will be recognized for her innovation and creativity in launching new trends and forging genres in the documentary field. WMM has been distributing Minh-ha's films since the 1980's both domestically and internationally. Films including REASSEMBLAGE, THE FOURTH DIMENSION, and SURNAME VIET GIVEN NAME NAM among others. WMM’s Executive Director Debra Zimmerman will be attending MIPDOC, speaking on a panel about new distribution platforms. She will also be attending MIP-TV and is currently scheduling appointments.


QUEEN OF THE MOUNTAIN PREMIERES ON PBS MARCH 23 & 26

Following a highly successful screening at the Bryn Mawr Film Institute, Martha Goell Lubell's QUEEN OF THE MOUNTAIN has its broadcast premiere on Philadelphia PBS station WHYY on Thursday, March 23 at 10pm and on New York's WNET Channel 13 Sunday, March 26 at 2pm. This fascinating bio pic tells the story of pioneering Jewish archaeologist Theresa Goell, who overcame a hearing disability and other personal obstacles to lead historic excavations at Nemrud Dagh, an isolated mountaintop in Southwestern Turkey. SPRING WORKSHOPS GO BICOASTAL!

WMM Media Workshops start March 25 with a convenient new format featuring two intensive programs on Distribution and Fundraising. And for the first time, workshops will also be held in Los Angeles in conjunction with the Reel Women Film Festival.

NYC Workshops start March 29 with a Documentary Master Class with Natalia Almada whose recent film AL OTRO LADO premiered at the NY MoMA. The Three-Part Distribution Intensive runs for three consecutive Wednesdays starting April 5 and includes an evening about Broadcast and DVD opportunities with Ellen Capon (Docurama) and Joshua Green (Emerging Pictures). The Three-Part Fundraising Intensive starts May 1st. NATIONWIDE TOUR OF ISRAELI FILMS COMES TO NEW YORK

As part of a nationwide tour in conjunction with the Israeli consulate, two award-winning documentaries by Israeli filmmakers will be shown in New York, both portraying Jewish women in Israel who are struggling with the confines placed on them by their religion. Showcase screenings include:

Friday, March 24th, Ilil Alexander’s KEEP NOT SILENT screens at the Pioneer Theater (East 3rd Street between Ave A & B) followed by a Q&A with the filmmaker. Get tickets.
Winner of multiple international awards, including an Israeli Oscar, this chilling film explores the plight of Orthodox Jewish lesbians fighting between faith and sexual identity. Sunday, April 2nd at 6:50, the Brooklyn Academy of Music (BAM) presents KEEP NOT SILENT with SENTENCED TO MARRIAGE, from Anat Zuria, maker of award-winning film PURITY (Tehora), a shocking expose of the Kafkaesque process of divorce for Jewish women in Israel. WMM’s acclaimed new release, SISTERS IN LAW comes to NY's Film Forum for two weeks only April 12-25 followed by a nationwide rollout beginning with dates at Landmark theaters in Seattle and Boston. Tune in Wednesday nights for the new "WMM on MNN" series on Manhattan Neighborhood Network's local cable channels. The series launches March 29 at 9pm EST on Time Warner Channel 34 with Sabiha Sumar's DON'T ASK WHY, a rare portrait of Muslim girls in South Asia, and continues every other Wednesday through the summer.
