SISTERS IN LAW OPENING NIGHT FILM AT IDFA
SISTERS IN LAW,
the latest from internationally acclaimed director and festival favorite Kim
Longinotto and co-directed by Florence Ayisi,
will open this year's International Documentary Festival Amsterdam (IDFA) on
Thursday, November 24th. Hailed as "one of the greatest documentaries of all times"
by Stella Pence of the Telluride Film Festival,
SISTERS IN LAW is a totally fascinating, often
hilarious look at the work of one small courthouse in Kumba, Cameroon.
The only documentary chosen for this
year's Directors' Fortnight at the Cannes Film Festival, SISTERS IN LAW walked
away with two awards - the Prix Art et Essai and Special Mention Europa Cinemas
and has screened to rave reviews at Toronto, Hamptons and Hawaii,
where it took home the prize for BEST
DOCUMENTARY.
Filmmakers Kim Longinotto and Florence Ayisi as well as stars Vera Ngassa and
Beatrice Ntuba will be present at Opening Night.

WMM MAKERS AT IDFA
Screening in the prestigious Silver Wolf competition
are two new docs by WMM filmmakers: Irene Lusztig's (RECONSTRUCTION)
THE
SAMANTHA SMITH PROJECT and Ibtisam Mara'ana's (PARADISE LOST)
BADAL.
Acclaimed filmmaker, Victoria Bruce (THE KIDNAPPING
OF INGRID BETANCOURT) has been chosen to serve on the Amnesty
International Jury.
Pelin Esmer's (CONVERSATIONS ACROSS THE BOSPHOROUS) new
film OYUN (THE
PLAY) is screening in
the Reflecting Images section, an international panorama of docs that have
made an impact at fests worldwide.
Maria Finitzo (5GIRLS) is one of two Americans whose
new projects were selected for the
FORUM.
Forty-one projects from twenty-one different countries were chosen to screen
in this year's Forum.

WMM's Executive Director, Debra Zimmerman, will moderate a panel called "Women's
Ways of Seeing". Special guests and filmmakers from
the IDFA programme will debate the specific manner in which women document the
world.

EARLY LONGINOTTO
FILM PRIDE OF PLACE SCREENS
As part of the First Films from Famous Filmmakers
special program, Kim Longinotto's 1976 doc,
PRIDE OF PLACE will screen alongside early works of
Victor Kossakovksy, Raymond Depardon and Werner Herzog, in an effort to trace
the roots of these renowned artists' sensibility from their earliest projects. WMM is in the process of acquiring two of Longinotto's
early films - PRIDE OF PLACE and THEATRE GIRLS.
