THE
PHANTOM OF THE OPERATOR AT NEW YORK MoMA
Called “an enormously
imaginative docu… an hour of non-stop visual and intellectual stimulation” by
VARIETY magazine, WMM New Release
The Phantom of the
Operator enjoys its U.S. premiere at the New York
MoMA's Canadian Front: New Films 2005, a nine-film programme featuring an
eclectic selection of Canada’s brightest filmmaking talent. This unique montage
film, the first independent feature by Montréal filmmaker Caroline Martel, is
crafted from almost 150 rarely seen industrial films produced in North America
between 1903 and 1989. The film will be in competition at the Full Frame Film
Festival in April.

YORK
Acclaimed
films My Terrorist
by Yulie Cohen Gerstel and
Purity by Anat
Zuria will screen at the
Pioneer
Theater on March 31 as part of a program presented by the
New Foundation for Israeli Cinema. Both filmmakers have brand new films in the
WMM 2005 Collection:
My Land Zion (Gerstel) and

The Venetian Dilemma, directed by part-time Venice residents and
"Friends of WMM" Carole and
Richard Rifkind, opens at New York's Film Forum on March 16 for a one-week run.
This fascinating insider's view of Venice explores how ordinary
Venetians are confronting a host of issues facing the future of their city,
including how once-vibrant neighborhoods are jammed
full of tourist-serving restaurants, cheesy souvenir stops and hotels.
