9-MONTH CONTRACT Receives Special Mention at DOC NYC; NUNS VS. THE VATICAN Wins Subject Matter Award

We are pleased to share that 9-MONTH CONTRACT (dir. Ketevan Vashagashvili; prods. Anna Khazaradze, Nino Chichua), made with the support of Women Make Movies’ Production Assistance Program, has received a Special Mention in the International Competition at the 2025 DOC NYC Feature Film Jury Awards.

The film follows a Georgian mother who, striving to provide a better future for her daughter, becomes a surrogate. Vashagashvili captures the intimate bond between mother and child while exploring the emotional terrain of intentional pregnancy undertaken for the sake of family. The result is a powerful examination of sacrifice, devotion, and the complex forms love can take.

NUNS VS. THE VATICAN (dir. Lorena Luciano), which made its U.S. premiere at DOC NYC and also made with the support of WMM’s Production Assistance Program, received a previously announced Subject Matter Award. The film tells the sexual abuse story of a nun within the Catholic Church, exposing a system built to protect power. The Subject Matter award comes with a $25,000 grant to support the film’s outreach efforts to impacted communities.
