When three American doctors — Palestinian, Jewish, and Zoroastrian — enter Gaza to save lives, they find themselves caught between medicine and politics, risking everything to expose the truth.

 

SYNOPSIS:

AMERICAN DOCTOR is a political and medical thriller set in a world with a broken moral compass. This is a character-driven narrative, filmed in unfolding verité scenes with no sit-down interviews or expert commentary.

 

CREW:

Poh Si Teng is an award-winning director and producer (Oscar-nominated ST. LOUIS SUPERMAN), former creative executive for ABC/Disney, former documentary commissioner for Al Jazeera English, former IDA grants director, and former Emmy-nominated New York Times journalist, with a portfolio spanning four continents. She is the founder of Tiny Boxer Films, which produces feature docs, docu- and unscripted-series for the US and global majority markets. She recently executive produced the Hulu/Disney hit disability romcom documentary PATRICE: THE MOVIE, and is the lead creative executive producer behind MUSLIM MATCHMAKER, the biggest commercial unscripted show on Muslim Americans. Her past producing credits include the Oscar-qualified award-winning short documentary BLOOD ON OUR SIDE from Mexico, and the BAFTA-qualified short documentary DEAD WOMAN’S PASS from Peru. She is currently producing a three-part docuseries that she developed, and directing her first feature documentary UNTITLED DOCTOR.
 
Producer: Kirstine Barfod
 
Kirstine Barfod is a Danish film producer and the founder of Nordland Pictures, established in 2022 and based in New York. She is an Oscar-nominated and Emmy and Peabody Award-winning producer and executive producer of documentary feature films and series. Best known for BLACK SNOW (CPH:DOX), THE CAVE (TIFF), and REUNITED (Hot Docs), Kirstine has made significant contributions to the film.
 
Producer: Reem Haddad
 
Reem Haddad is an award-winning Palestinian Canadian producer and filmmaker with two decades of experience covering the Middle East and Africa. A former commissioning editor for Al Jazeera English, she has overseen documentaries about conflicts and crises from Gaza to Yemen to South Africa. She recently commissioned and produced RESCUE MISSION GAZA, a harrowing look at Gaza’s Civil Defense officers and first responders, capturing their efforts to dodge bombs, rescue civilians, and save children trapped under rubble. In 2024, the film earned her the Overseas Press Club of America Award and the British Royal Television Society Award for its raw, unflinching storytelling. Her other producing credits include BOKO HARAM CATCHER, ANXIOUS IN BEIRUT and BAGHDAD ON FIRE.
 
Executive Producer: Simon Kilmurry
 
Simon Kilmurry is a Member of the Board of Governors of the Academy of Motion Pictures Arts and Sciences. He is a documentary producer, executive producer, and consultant, and has received one Prime Time Emmy Award, 17 News & Documentary Emmys, and six Peabody Awards. He is a member of the Producers Guild of America, the Television Academy, and has served on the board of jurors of the Peabody Awards. He served as executive director of the International Documentary Association (IDA) (2015-2021) where he oversaw all of IDA’s programs and established the Enterprise Documentary Fund, providing over $5 million in funding to documentary films. Prior to IDA he was the executive producer of “POV”, the PBS showcase of independent documentaries (2007-2015) and where he co-founded the WORLD Channel documentary series “America ReFramed”. He produced DESPERATE SOULS, DARK CITY AND THE LEGEND OF MIDNIGHT COWBOY by Nancy Buirski, and recently executive produced SPEAK which premiered at the 2025 Sundance Film Festival.
 
Executive Producer: Hamza Ali
 
Hamza Ali is the President of MPI Media Group and Co-Founder of Watermelon Pictures, a Palestinian-owned film label dedicated to amplifying underrepresented voices. His journey in entertainment began with his father, Malik, and uncle Waleed Ali, who founded a pioneering independent distribution company in 1976. Raised in the entertainment industry, Hamza witnessed firsthand how his family grew a small venture into a leading entertainment organization. Today, he and his brother Badie lead MPI Media Group and its subsidiaries—MPI Home Entertainment, Dark Sky Films, and the MPI Stock Footage Archive. In 2024, to honor Waleed’s legacy and continue their father’s vision, Hamza and Badie launched Watermelon Pictures. The label is committed to using storytelling as a force for change, helping audiences imagine a liberated future. Since its founding, Watermelon has produced and/or distributed impactful films including Israelism, From Ground Zero, The Encampments, Palestine 36, All That’s Left of You, and The Voice of Hind Rajab.
