9 WMM-Supported Films to Screen and Pitch at the 2025 Sheffield DocFest Festival

Sheffield DocFest, the UK’s leading documentary festival and a crucial platform for politically conscious nonfiction cinema, is underway this week. Nine films developed with the support of our Production Assistance Program will be participating in the film program, MeetMarket,  pitching forums, and showcases. The festival runs June 18-23 across venues in Sheffield, UK.  

THE GAS STATION ATTENDANT, directed by Karla Murthy will have its World Premiere. This film is produced by Karla Murthy/Greene Fort Productions and Rajal Pitroda (who also produced WMM new release A SHOT AT HISTORY). 

The following 5 other WMM-supported films are also screening:  

  • COEXISTENCE, MY ASS! – Directed by Amber Fares. Produced by Amber Fares, Rachel Leah Jones.  
    HOW TO BUILD A LIBRARY – Directed by Christopher King, Maia Lekow. Produced by Christopher King, Maia Lekow.  
  • MY DEAR THÉO – Directed by Alisa Kovalenko. Produced by Katarzyna Kuczynska / HAKA FILMS, Oleksandra Kravchenko / Moon Man.  
  • WRITING HAWA – Directed by Najiba Noori and Nasul Noori. Produced by Christian Popp, Hasse van Nunen, Renko Douze.  

The below two WMM-supported projects will participate in the 2025 MeetMarket, which offers selected filmmakers curated meetings with funders, broadcasters, distributors, and other industry leaders.

  • BREAKING THE SILENCE – Directed by Ivan MacDonald. Produced by Liz Unger / Hold The Map Productions.  
  • PORTRAIT OF A – Directed by Rand Beiruty, Produced by Rand Beiruty / Shaghab Films.  

Additionally, HOLDS YOU TIGHT, made with support of WMM’s Production Assistance Program and directed by Jane Wagner and produced by Wagner and Carrie Weprin, will participate in the Chicken & Egg Work-In-Progress Showcase
