STORMING CAESARS PALACE to Premiere at BlackStar Film Festival on Opening Night!

WMM new acquisition STORMING CAESARS PALACE, which received substantial funding from the National Endowment for the Humanities, the Ford Foundation, ITVS, and Black Public Media, will have its world premiere at BlackStar Film Festival! This inspiring documentary chronicles the extraordinary life of Ruby Duncan, an activist who fights the welfare system and becomes a White House advisor.

STORMING CAESARS PALACE will screen on opening night (August 3), and both filmmaker Hazel Gurland-Pooler and protagonist Ruby Duncan will be in attendance. Don’t miss an Instagram Live interview with Hazel on Friday, July 29 at 2pm ET leading up to the fest! Be sure to follow us on Instagram to get the notification.

Based on a groundbreaking book and using lost archival material, STORMING CAESARS PALACE, which was made with the support of WMM’s Production Assistance Program, highlights the visionary leadership of Black women organizers whose courage, tenacity, and dreams could not be quashed against all odds. While the film focuses on a historical story, its message is current and relevant as it asks viewers to consider what can happen if we harness “poor people power!”

Blackstar Film Festival runs August 3 – 7, 2022. Purchase tickets to the in-person screening of STORMING CAESARS PALACE on August 3 or watch the film virtually beginning August 4.

STORMING CAESARS PALACE is now available to book for screenings.
