Women Make Movies is pleased to share that director Rajani Mani has been selected to receive this year’s Women Make Movies’s Award at DocsBarcelona for her film BEFORE THE FEAST.
Set in the tidal wetlands of Cochin, BEFORE THE FEAST follows aging farmer Vincent as he faces rising seas, powerful storms, and the slow march of time in his quest to preserve Pokkali rice — a rare, salt-resistant grain with the potential to help feed the future. When unexpected tragedy strikes, Vincent’s legacy hangs in the balance as his family begins to fracture.
Presented to an outstanding project pitched by a woman director, the WMM Award includes acceptance into our Production Assistance Program, a one-year subscription to our webinar series, and tailored support through mentorship and consultation.
This is the second WMM Award at DocsBarcelona. Last year, we awarded Doyla Gavanski, director of CONFESSIONS OF A FEMALE GAMER — made with the support of our Production Assistance Program — the inaugural award.
