Vanalyne Green

Vanalyne Green's videos are in the collection of the Museum of Modern Art, Carnegie Museum of Art, Madison Art Center, New Langton Arts, the New York Public Library, Duke University, and Vassar College, among many other institutions and personal collections. She has received grants from the Rockefeller Foundation, the National Endowment for the Arts, the New York State Council for the Arts, the Jerome Foundation, the Illinois State Council on the Arts, Media Alliance, Checkerboard Foundation, and Art Matters Inc.

Her videotapes have won many prizes and honors, including the following: First prize in the USA Film Festival, the Montreal Women's Film & Video Festival, and the Black Maria Film & Video Festival. Critical writing about her work has appeared in such publications as Artforum, Texte Zur Kunst, Critical Inquiry, and the Village Voice and such books as Resolutions: Essays on Contemporary Video Practice, and Beyond Document: Essays on Nonfiction Film. Her own writing has been published in various art journals and a book titled Diamonds Are a Girl's Best Friend, edited by Elinor Nauen and published by Faber and Faber.

She serves as a trustee for the Ucross Foundation in Wyoming. In addition to teaching and chairing at the School of the Art Institute of Chicago, she's been a visiting professor at the Ecole Nationale Superieure des Beaux-Arts in Paris, France, where she helped found their video department. She has also have been a visiting artist at Leeds University in England and at many colleges and universities throughout the United States. (09/09)
