We are happy to share that Julie Forrest Wyman’s powerful documentary THE TALLEST DWARF, which was also made with the support of our Production Assistance Program, received the Unstoppable Feature Grand Jury Prize Honorable Mention at the 32nd Slamdance Film Festival.
Described as “a beautiful manifesto” by Virgie Tovar of Forbes, the film follows Julie Wyman as she charts her personal journey to understand her place within the little people (LP) community at a time when height-altering pharmaceuticals are reshaping ideas of “normal.” Along the way, she joins forces with a group of dwarf artists to confront a complicated history of spectacle, fetishization, and representation. Together, they reclaim creative expression and challenge the legacy of objectification in mainstream media.
Slamdance’s Unstoppable program celebrates groundbreaking films by or about people with visible and non-visible disabilities, spotlighting bold storytelling that expands representation on screen. THE TALLEST DWARF embodies that mission by inviting audiences to rethink identity, disability, and what it means to belong.
New York audiences can experience THE TALLEST DWARF soon at DCTV’s Firehouse Cinema on Wednesday, March 18 at 7:00 PM, followed by a post-screening Q&A.
Congratulations to Julie Forrest Wyman and the entire THE TALLEST DWARF team on this well-deserved honor.
