BARBARA FOREVER directed by Brydie O’Connor and made with the support of the WMM Production Assistance Program, will have its theatrical release this September! The film, which premiered at Sundance and won the prestigious Teddy Award for Best Documentary/Essay Film at the Berlinale, follows the legacy of experimental filmmaker Barbara Hammer, a trailblazer among the feminist and queer movements of the 1970s.
Women Make Movies has long distributed seminal works by Barbara Hammer – OUT IN SOUTH AFRICA, TENDER FICTIONS, or THE FEMALE CLOSET – which are referenced in O’Connor’s new feature and are available through WMM for exhibition, licensing, and to buy. Also available through Women Make Movies is LOVE, BARBARA, a 2022 short film by Brydie O’Connor that blends cinematic imagery and archival materials such as video letters, sketches, and writing to offer a tribute to Hammer through the lens of her great love and partner of 30 years, Florrie Burke.
BARBARA FOREVER kicks off its theatrical run September 4th at Film Forum in NYC followed by screenings in theaters across the country. See a full list of screenings here.
