When no one swipes right, what happens next?
SYNOPSIS
A documentary feature film in production from A Slice of Pie Productions and the team behind "The Automat." In a time where people have access to more potential mates than ever before, scholars, opinion makers and dating industry leaders explore why so many of reproductive age all over the world aren’t partnered or having children, what to do about it, and whether anxiety is in order over our soon to be shrinking population.
ABOUT FILMMAKER(S)
Lisa Hurwitz
Lisa Hurwitz is an emerging feature director and principal at A Slice of Pie Productions. Her critically acclaimed first film, "The Automat," premiered at the 2021 Telluride Film Festival and was hailed as a breakout success of the year, receiving a 98% score on Rotten Tomatoes and nominations for four 2022 Critics Choice Documentary Awards including Best Feature Documentary and Best First Feature Director. After a grassroots release of over one thousand screenings in theaters, at film festivals, JCCs, synagogues, schools, senior centers, residential communities, libraries, museums, and even a couple of farms, the film had its television premiere on Turner Classic Movies which Lisa co-hosted on-air with Ben Mankiewicz, and became available to watch on HBO Max alongside a Kino Lorber DVD release. It was featured on television on CBS Sunday Morning and BBC Talking Pictures with Lisa as an on-air guest. Despite the film's very wide availability, in-person community screenings continue to take place, many accompanied with coffee and pie. The film was reviewed in print in national publications such as The New York Times, The Washington Post, The Wall Street Journal and Time Magazine.
Lisa discovered her love for cinema as a 35mm projectionist cutting her teeth in art house, film festival and arts administration and programming which she did for years. She lives in New York City where she is in production on her second feature documentary, "Singles," an exploration of the global decline in partnership, childbearing and population.
