1946: THE MISTRANSLATION OF CULTURE Wins the Audience Award at DOC NYC

Updated November 23, 2022

After a sold-out world premiere, 1946: THE MISTRANSLATION OF CULTURE (dir. Sharon “Rocky” Roggio) has won the Audience Award at the 13th annual DOC NYC! The film, which was made with the support of the WMM Production Assistance Program, reveals the ground-breaking research of Kathy Baldock, a Christian Conservative LGBTQIA+ activist and Ed Oxford, an LGBTQIA+ theologian as they seek to uncover the origins of the rabid homophobia of the conservative church. They discover that, in 1946, an erroneous translation of the term “homosexual” in the Bible has been weaponized against the LGBTQIA+ community ever since.

The film has also achieved the designation of the “most watched film EVER in the history of DOC NYC.”

Congratulations to Rocky and the rest of the film team!
