Congratulations to the team behind the WMM-sponsored film COACH EMILY (dir. Pallavi Somusetty) for taking home the DOCLANDS 2023 DocPitch Industry Prize, which includes $40k in production funding! The festival wrapped up last night and included 6 films from WMM filmmakers. WMM-sponsored films opened and closed the festival: IT’S ONLY LIFE AFTER ALL (dir. Alexandria Bombach) and RAZING LIBERTY SQUARE, U.S PREMIERE, (dir. Katja Esson), respectively. WMM-sponsored films INVISIBLE BEAUTY (dir. Bethann Hardison) and GOING TO MARS: THE NIKKI GIOVANNI PROJECT, WEST COAST PREMIERE, (dir. Michèle Stephenson, Joe Brewster) also screened, as did VICTIM/SUSPECT, CA PREMIERE, a new film from Program alum Nancy Schwartzman. Last, but certainly not least, Program alum Dawn Porter received the Honors Award after her new film LADY BIRD DIARIES had its CA Premiere.
