WMM Films and Filmmakers Premiering at Tribeca Film Festival

We are delighted to see that WMM new release STATELESS (Dir. Michèle Stephenson) has been named as the #1 film to watch at Tribeca by film critic Joshua Brunsting (CriterionCast)! Filmed with a chiaroscuro effect and elements of magical realism, STATELESS reveals the depths of institutionalized racism and oppression for Haitians living in the Dominican Republic.

Many films from our Production Assistance Program, program alums, and new releases are also screening at the Tribeca Film Festival 2021! ON THE DIVIDE (dir. Maya Cueva and Leah Galant), FATHER OF THE CYBORGS, and BEING BEBE (dir. Emily Branham), all made with the support of WMM’s Production Assistance Program, will premiere this year.

Last year’s festival was cancelled due to COVID-19, and, as a result, films slated to premiere at the 2020 Tribeca Film Festival will also screen this year. Titles include PA films I CARRY YOU WITH ME (Dir. Heidi Ewing), JACINTA (Dir. Jessica Earnshaw), PRAY AWAY (Dir. Kristine Stolakis), WAKE UP ON MARS (REVEIL SUR MARS) (Dir. Dea Djinovci), and WOMEN IN BLUE (Dir. Deirdre Fishel).

A new film from WMM filmmaker Nneka Onuorah (THE LEGEND OF THE UNDERGROUND) as well as films from PA alums Yoruba Richen (THE SIT-IN: HARRY BELAFONTE HOSTS THE TONIGHT SHOW) Sonia Kennebeck (ENEMIES OF THE STATE), Lauren DeFilippo (AILEY) and Cecilia Aldarondo (LANDFALL) will also be premiering.

The festival runs June 9 – 20. Click here for more information and to see the full lineup.
