SYNOPSIS
UVALDE MOM follows the extraordinary story of Angeli Rose Gomez, a farm worker and single mother who risked everything to save her two sons during the May 2022 mass shooting at Robb Elementary in Uvalde, TX. While nearly 400 armed officers waited 77 minutes to act, Angeli ran into the school, pulled her children to safety, and became a viral symbol of courage. But as she spoke out against law enforcement’s inaction, she faced intense harassment from authorities, who weaponized her past to discredit and silence her.
From award-winning director Anayansi Prado (Maid in America, The Unafraid), UVALDE MOM is a powerful, heart-wrenching look at Angeli’s relentless fight for justice. As Uvalde confronts systemic failures and the U.S. Department of Justice launches an investigation, conflicting narratives emerge, deepening the town’s grief and anger. With the first anniversary of the tragedy approaching, Angeli must navigate the weight of what happened to her community while continuing her personal battle for truth and accountability.

Anayansi Prado
Anayansi Prado is known nationally for her heartfelt films that delve behind the headlines. With over 20 years of experience, she crafts works that illuminate contemporary cultural conversations and invite dialogue. Her award-winning films have aired on PBS, including Maid in America (Independent Lens), Paraiso for Sale (PBS World Channel), and The Unafraid (America Reframed), and have screened at Tribeca Film Festival, DC/DOX , Full Frame, and her latest feature film, Uvalde Mom premiered at SXSW. Anayansi has been recognized with a Concordia Fellowship, a Chicken & Egg Award, a Rockefeller Media Fellowship, and is a Creative Capital Artist. Her work has been supported by various funders including the Sundance Institute, MacArthur Foundation, Ford Foundation, ITVS, Perspective Fund, and Tribeca Studios. A noted public speaker, instructor and guest lecturer, Prado has served as a mentor and instructor for programs such as Sundance Co//ab, Film Independent Documentary Lab, Firelight Media Lab, Chicken and Egg Alumni Nest, Sisters in Cinema Fellowship, and others. She has been a visiting film professor at UCLA's Film School graduate program, Chapman University's Film Department and Cal State Northridge Journalism Department. FACES OF HARASSMENT is an experiment in storytelling about trauma. When the hashtag #MyFirstHarassment swept across Brazil, it showed not only the widespread experience of sexual harassment and assault, but a widespread hunger to bring it out of the shadows. FACES OF HARASSMENT amplifies this movement, by opening space for women to speak their own truth. The film was shot in a mobile storytelling van, parked in rich and poor neighborhoods alike across São Paulo and Rio de Janeiro and open to any woman. The van was a free, autonomous space, where women spoke to the camera directly, no interviewer or other influence present. Sometimes humorous and often heartbreaking, this film follows the daily lives of the wives whose situation has turned them into both bitter rivals and co-conspirators against their abusive husband.
Persson’s camera unobtrusively and beautifully captures the range of the family’s interactions – from peaceful, pastoral scenes of a family picnic, to the temporary chaos caused by a broken faucet in the kitchen, to a furtive, whispered conversation between two wives about the latest beating. The women’s work – making bread, weaving carpets, milking and herding the sheep – provide the background to their frank conversations.
